JUST GET IT DONE: A SOLO SHOW WORKSHOP IN LA
Carla was the queen of procrastination. Four years ago she finally put her foot down and made a goal for herself: write and perform one solo show a year. Four years into this experiment, Carla has four solo shows under her belt that have toured LA's theater circuit. Her most recent work, Sweatlodged, is a selection of the 2013 United Solo Fest in New York City. Carla has directed solo shows that have played at iO West, Comedy Central Stage, Hollywood Fringe Festival, and Out of Bounds Comedy Festival (2013). She will share her experience from the beginning of the process through completed project, as well as reveal the most important thing she does to ensure the completion of a show.
This four week workshop will tackle the creating, writing and marketing of a one person show. Whether you have an idea for a show, are looking for an idea for a show, or are hoping to re-work a show you’ve already performed, this workshop will give you the tools to obtaining your goal. Each class consists of lecture, performance time, as well as personal feedback. There will be writing assignments each week for you to bring in and workshop in front of others. By the end of the four weeks, you will have at least ten minutes of performance material, an outline for your completed show, as well as a plan of attack for getting this sucker up and in front of people!
For years you’ve been talking about doing a solo show. What are you waiting for? Just get it done!
